Install DScaler and get free DVD decoders for Windows by following our easy, step-by-step tutorial

Installing DScaler and getting free DVD decoders for Windows is a straightforward process though some of the messages you will encounter when installing the software can be a little confusing. Use our step-by-step guide and you will be up and running in no time!

The first step is to download DScaler 4 from the DScaler homepage. Make sure you download Dscaler 4 / free DVD decoders for Windows from this page. Download whichever version is at the TOP of that page and make sure you click the download link that says "Setup Program" not "Source Zipped". Once the file has downloaded, double click it to start the installation process, you should see a window like the one below appear:-

Install DScaler step 1

Click on "Next >" to move on to the window shown below:-

Install DScaler step 2

Scroll down to read the licence agreement and if you agree, be sure to select "I Accept the Agreement" before clicking "Next >" to move to the window shown below:-

Install DScaler step 3

Yikes! This window looks a little intimidating, but if you are installing DScaler just to watch DVD's then this warning will not apply to you. DScaler can work with capture cards or TV tuner cards, if you don't have a TV tuner or capture card you don't need to worry about this warning. If you do have one and you plan to use DScaler with it, then the red text in this window warns you to be careful when telling DScaler what type of TV/capture card you own. At this point, you do not need to choose a capture card, you do that once the program is installed, so you cannot do any damage to your system by choosing the wrong option in this window. Using DScaler with a TV or capture card is not covered in these tutorials, see the DScaler website for more information on this.

Once you have read this warning (or ignored it if you only want to use the free DVD decoders for Windows that come with DScaler) click on "Next >" and you will be moved to the window shown below:-

Install DScaler step 4

Here you can choose where on your computer you want DSaler to be installed. The default location is correct for most users, so simply click on "Next >" to move on to the next window:-

Install DScaler step 5

Here you can choose the components to install. Again, the default settings are right for most users, so simply click on "Next >" to continue to the window shown below:-

Install DScaler step 6

Here you have the option of making a start menu short-cut for the program. If you only want to use DScaler for watching DVD's, you can click the box that says "Don't create a Start Menu folder" to save space on your Start Menu. Once you have decided, click on "Next >" to move to the window shown below:-

Install DScaler step 7

Almost done now, here you can choose to create a desktop or quick launch icon. Again, if you only want to use DScaler for its free DVD decoders for Windows, you can deselect both of these options. When you have decided, click on "Next >" to move to the next window shown below:-

Install DScaler step 8

This step lets you check all of your choices in the previous steps. Simply click on "Next >" to begin copying DScaler to your computer.

Install DScaler step 9

There will be a short pause while files are copied over. Once the copy is complete you should see the window below:-

Install DScaler step 10

Congratulations, the files have copied over and are ready to use and you now have free DVD decoders for Windows installed on your system! Make sure the box "Launch Dscaler" is not ticked, then click "Finish". You do not need to run DScaler to watch DVD's, DScaler simply installs the additional components needed to watch DVD's in Windows Media Player.
