If you have an older Windows XP PC (less than 1ghz) or a PC without much RAM (less than 512 megabytes) then following this tutorial may make a big difference to the speed of your PC. The techniques demonstrated in this video are completely safe and can be reversed easily.

Additional hints

Below are some examples of typical PC systems and the settings you may wish to use in the Performance Options window:-

Older PC – Less than 1ghz or system with low memory.
Choose “Adjust for best performance”.

Budget PC – Around 1ghz with 256mb of memory or less.
Choose the “Custom:” option and untick everything except:-

Show shadows under menus
Show shadows under mouse pointer
Show translucent selection rectangle
Use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop
Use visual styles on windows and buttons

Mid to high spec PC – 1.2ghz or above with 512mb memory or more.
Choose the option “Let Windows choose what's best for my computer”.

Of course these are just suggestions, feel free to experiment with these settings and choose the combination that works best for you.
