Use NOD32 Version 3 and our easy to follow tutorials to protect your Windows PC! - Tutorial 1 - Installing NOD V3

Our favourite anti-virus package has been updated and overhauled! NOD32 version 3 gives you the same cutting edge protection that version 2 did, but with a completely redesigned interface. The new interface answers the most common criticism of NOD32, that it was too difficult to use. Now, basic operations can be carried out with the minimum of fuss and technical knowledge! If you are an expert user, fear not, all that power and flexibility is still under the hood in the advanced settings menu. Finally, in spite of the new interface, NOD32 remains one of the most efficient anti-virus packages available, so you can enjoy maximum protection with minimal use of computing resources.

This tutorial will walk you through the installation of NOD32 version 3. Before installing a new anti-virus package, it is important to remove your old virus checking software (if you were running any). To do this, consult the documentation that came with your anti-virus software. Usually you can remove your old anti-virus software by selecting Start/control panel/add or remove programs, then selecting your old anti-virus program from the list and clicking change/remove and following all on screen instructions.

NOD32 V2 users please note – If you are upgrading from NOD32 version 2, you should not uninstall the old version. The installer for version 3 will take care of removing the old version and save your important settings such as your serial number, so you won't have to enter them again.

Next, obtain the appropriate version of NOD32. If you are running Windows 95 or 98, you should refer to our tutorials for NOD32 Version 2 as version 3 is for Windows 2000 and above only. Click here to obtain a 30 day trial version or click here to download the full, paid version. For the paid version, you will need the user name and password you received from ESET, so have them handy. Once you have obtained an installation file, either a 30 day trial or full version, double click on the file to begin the installation. After a short pause, the following window will be displayed on your screen:-

Click on “Next >”. The following screen will be displayed:-

Scroll down to read all of the licence agreement then click “Next >” to proceed. The next window should look like this:-

Make sure that there is a dot next to “Typical (Recommended for most users) and click on “Next >” to move on to the window shown below:-

Enter your user name and password here. You should have received these from ESET when you registered the software. If you can't remember your user name and password, you can choose “Set update parameters later” and recover your password once you have completed the installation. When you have entered your user name and password (or clicked “Set update parameters later”) click on “Next >” to move to the window shown below:-

Here we must make a decision regarding ThreatSense. Enabling ThreatSense allows the software to share data on any computer viruses you encounter with ESET (the company who produce NOD32). We recommend leaving this option turned on. If you are concerned about private data leaving your computer, leave this option turned off and consult the help files after installation to review ESET's privacy policy. Once you have made up your mind, click “Next >” to proceed to the next step.

Another decision for you! Here NOD is asking you if you want to be notified of “Potentially unwanted applications”. These applications are not computer viruses but they could slow your system down. However, one persons unwanted application is another person’s favourite desktop widget. If you are in doubt, choose “Disable detection of potentially unwanted applications”. When you have made up your mind, press “Next >”.

There is nothing to do on this window other than press “Install”. You should then see a window like the one below:-

There will now be a delay as files are installed on your computer. Windows Vista users may see two or more Windows User Account Control prompts appear asking you to grant permission to install or configure various parts of NOD32. You must choose “accept” or “allow” at all of these prompts to successfully install the software.

When all the files are installed, click on “Next >” (You will not be able to click this button until all the files have been installed) to move on to the window shown below:-

If everything went according to plan, you should now see the above window. Click on “Finish”.

You will probably now see this window appear, asking you to restart your computer. Restart now to complete the installation by clicking on “Yes”. Your computer will now restart and NOD will load at start up, protecting you from computer viruses, trojans and spyware.

If you encounter any problems with the installation, we recommend checking the official V3 Quickstart Guide which is written by ESET themselves.
