Protect yourself from computer viruses with Avast home edition - Tutorial 2 - Boot time antivirus scan

Because viruses often affect Windows system files, Avast includes a "boot time antivirus scan" that can scan the files on your computer before Windows starts up, making it harder for particularly nasty viruses to hide. This scanner will start the first time you reboot your computer after installing Avast home edition or Avast Professional. When you reboot your PC after the installation, you will see a screen like the one shown below:-
This is the scanner at work scanning files on your PC. Hopefully there will be no problems detected. If the scanner does detect a virus, the following message will be displayed:-
That's a lot of options, let's take a look at what they all do. 1 - Delete - Deletes the infected file 2 - Delete all - Deletes the infected file and any other infected file found 3 - Move - Moves the infected file to another location on your computer that you must specify 4 - Move all - Moves the infected file and any other infected file found to another location on your computer that you must specify 5 - Move to chest - Moves the infected file to the virus chest. This is often called the quarantine on other virus checkers. It is a secure area where viruses and malware can be stored for inspection without the risk of them doing further damage to your system 6 - Move all to chest - Moves the infected file and any other infected file found to the virus chest 7 - Repair - Attempts to clean the virus infection from the file. This is the option you should use in most cases. If you cannot repair a file, move it to the virus chest instead8 - Repair All - Attempts to clean the virus infection from the file and any other infected file found 9 - Ignore - Ignores this virus infection completely. Please do not use this option unless you are an advanced user and know exactly what you are doing, as it leaves the infection on your system where it may cause further damage 0 - Ignore all - Ignores this virus infection completely and any other virus infection found. This is not recommended ESC - Exit - Exits the boot time antivirus scanner and boots Windows To choose an option, you need to press the appropriate key on your keyboard. You cannot select an option with the mouse at this point. We recommend you choose "Repair" for any viruses that the boot time scanner finds. Once the scanner has finished running, Windows will
then boot as normal.
