Change your Windows Vista boot screen easily and safely using Stardock's free BootSkin Vista utility - Tutorial 1 - Installation

BootSkin Vista is a free utility that can change the boring Windows Vista screen you see when your computer is starting up into a different design of your choosing. Finally, Windows Vista users can completely customize their computers in the same way Windows XP users have been doing for years now.

Installing the program is really easy. The first thing you need to do is download the latest version of BootSkin Vista from Stardock's website. Download the file to a location on your PC that you can easily find. Once the file is downloaded, double click on it to start the installation process. You will need to grant permission for the installation to continue if prompted to do so by Windows User Account Control. You should then see the window shown below:-

Click "Next >". You will be taken to the window shown below:-

Scroll down to read the license agreement and when you are happy, tick or check the box that is labelled "I accept the terms of the license agreement". Click "Next >" to move on to the next window:-

Here you can choose where to install the program. The default location is correct for most users, so simply click on "Next >". You will then see the window shown below:-

Wait a moment while files are copied to your computer. When the process is complete, Stardock Impulse will start. You may see the following window:-

Impluse needs to start to check for updates and to complete the installation of Bootskin Vista. Choose "No - Allow Impulse to run as Administrator". You will need to grant permission for Impulse to start if Windows User Account control asks you to do so.

Impulse will now start, if you need help configuring or using Impulse, see this tutorial. When you are done configuring Impulse, the following window should appear:-

The software is now fully installed, Click on "Finish". The software should now start automatically.
