Protect your privacy with Eraser, a free secure wipe tool! Tutorial 1 – Installing Eraser

Before installing Eraser, please remove any previous versions of the software from your computer. You can do this by going to the control panel and choosing "Add or Remove Programs" (Windows XP) or "Programs" (Windows Vista).

Now, download the latest version of the software from the Eraser homepage. Save the file to your desktop or somewhere where you can easily find it. When the download is complete, double click on the file to start the installation.

Windows Vista users only - You may see a Windows User Account Control prompt appear, asking you to grant permission to install Eraser. You must click on "Continue" (you may also be prompted for your password) in order for the installation to continue.

Once you have done this, the following window will be displayed:-

Click on “Next >”. The following window will then be displayed:-

Scroll down to read the licence agreement and if you are happy with the terms, click on “Next >” to move to the window shown below:-

You may also wish to review the information presented in this window by scrolling down. Once you are ready, click on “Next >” and the following window will be displayed:-

Here you can choose where the program files will be stored on your computer. The default location is fine, so click on “Next >” to move to the window shown below:-

Here you can choose where the program puts its shortcuts. You can also choose who can run the program (anyone who has an account on this computer, or just the user account you are logged on to right now). The default location for the programs shortcuts is fine, but if you share your computer with others in your family, you may wish to choose “only for me (current user)” to prevent your children misusing this powerful utility and destroying important data.

Once you have made your decision, click on “Next >” to move to the window shown below:-

Everything is now ready to install, so click on “Next >”. You will now see a window like the one shown below:-

There will be a short pause while files are copied to your computer. When this process is complete, the following window will be displayed:-

The program is now installed, click on “Finish” to exit the installer.
