In this video tutorial we show you how to make Windows faster by turning off unnecessary start-up programs. Many users don't realise how many programs start up when they boot their Windows PC, each program takes up valuable system resources.

Please exercise caution when following this tutorial!

The System Configuration Utility can make critical changes to your system. Please follow the advice given in the tutorial carefully and do NOT disable any start-up entries unless you are sure what they do. Before disabling a program, at least find out exactly what it does by searching with Google or your favourite search engine. Additional Notes

Remember the Command Prompt utility is located in Start->All Programs->Accessories->Command Prompt.

Although this video was recorded in Windows Vista, almost every aspect of the System Configuration Utility works the same in Windows XP. The only exception is the user account control section, as user account control is a new feature in Windows Vista.

Windows XP users can start the system configuration utility through the Command Prompt as shown in the video, or alternatively simply click on the start menu, select “Run...” and in the dialogue box that appears enter “msconfig”. Windows Vista users who have enabled the “Run” option in their start menu can also do this.
