Audacity is a fantastic free audio editing tool that is ideal for converting cassette tapes or other analogue recordings into digital format. In this tutorial, we'll show you how you can install this amazing free program. First of all we need to download the latest version of the software. For our tutorials, we'll be using the beta version of Audacity. We normally recommend avoiding beta (test) versions of software where possible, but in this case we recommend using the latest beta version due to its improved support for Windows 7 and Windows Vista (XP users can use either the beta or release versions).

Download the latest version of Audacity by visiting this page. The beta version is the link on the right. Click the Windows download link then save the file to your desktop or somewhere where you can easily access it. When the download is complete, double click on the file or choose open in your browsers download manager to start the installation process. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users will need to enter their administrator password and/or click on "Yes" if user account control prompts them to grant permission to install the software.
