Genie Timeline 2012 Professional tutorial 1 – Installing Genie Timeline

Genie Timeline 2012 is the most powerful time machine style backup package available for Windows machines. With this powerful package, inexperienced users can easily backup their precious files, while expert users have all the power and flexibility they need to replace traditional backup solutions.

Installing the software is nice and easy too. Download the latest version by clicking this link. Save the file to your desktop or somewhere you can easily access it. When the download is complete, double click on the file or choose “Open” in your browsers download manager to start the installation process. If you are using Windows Vista or Windows 7, you may need to enter an administrator password and/or click “Yes” if User Account Control prompts you to do so.

The following window will then be displayed:-

Click on “Next >”. The following window will then appear:-

Scroll down to read the license agreement and if you agree to the terms, click on “I Agree”. The following window will then be displayed:-

Expert users can choose the installation directory here, but for most users the default directory is fine. Click on “Install” to proceed. There will be a pause while files are copied and configured, then Genie Timeline will start automatically. If the program starts successfully you can move directly on to the next tutorial. On some systems you may see the following error notice appear:-

In this case, please install the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package, which is available here for 32 bit Windows users and here for 64 bit Windows users. If you’re not sure which version you need, you can safely install them both.
