In this free Windows Media Player tutorial video, we show you how to 'rip' your audio CD's to your computer. This might sound a little destructive, but don't worry, ripping a CD simply means copying the contents of the disc to your computers hard drive. You can then play back your music without having the CD in the drive. You can even transfer the music to a portable music player too if you like. No compact discs will be harmed in the process, we promise.

Note - Windows Media Player 12 is available for Windows 7 users only, XP and Vista users should use our Windows Media Player 11 tutorials.

Because so many people have abused the ability to rip music, some CD's now come with copyright protection. These CD's cannot be played in a computers CD drive and cannot be ripped. If you want to listen to your music on your computer and/or your portable music player, check the packaging on a compact disc before you purchase it to make sure that you do not accidentally purchase one of these discs.
