Use NOD32 Version 3 and our easy to follow tutorials to protect your Windows PC! - Tutorial 2 - Virus removal!

Virus removal with NOD32 V3 has been greatly simplified. Every time you encountered a virus when using NOD32 Version 2, you would be prompted for action. Naturally, the course of action you took would be the same every time, that is, clean or delete the virus from your system. When NOD32 Version 3 discovers a virus on your system, you will see the following window appear in the bottom right hand corner of your screen:-

NOD32 V3 virus alert

The first thing to remember when you see this window is "don’t panic!" If you see this window, you do NOT have a virus infection; NOD32 has protected you against one. Let’s now have a look at the information in this window in more detail. We can see three pieces of information:- "Object:", "Threat:" and "Information:".

Object: This tells us exactly where on our computer the infected file is.

Threat: This is the name of the virus. In our example it is the harmless "Trojan Simulator" but in a real life scenario this could be the name of a known virus or information on how NOD detected an unknown virus.

Information: Shows how the virus removal took place. This is the course of action that the software took to protect your PC. Usually, the virus will be cleaned (if it has attached itself to a file) or deleted.

No further action is necessary on your part. Your system is safe and secure. We told you the new NOD32 was easy to use! Any easier and we will be out of a job.

Advanced Users

Since we completed this tutorial in record time, here is a little tip for advanced users. If you would rather have full control over virus removal for each virus alert, as with NOD32 version 2, then you need to go to "Threatsense engine parameter setup" under the "Antivirus and Antispyware" setup options. See the help files from within NOD32 if you need help finding these options. If you set the cleaning level to "No Cleaning" then NOD will ask you what to do every time a threat is encountered. Below is a picture of the window you will see if you set this option and a virus tries to infect your machine:-

This is similar to the alert window used for virus removal in NOD32 version 2, but with some of the less useful options removed.
