Manage Windows Vista updates and adjust your automatic update options by following this quick tutorial

Managing Windows Vista updates is pretty straightforward and is done in a similar fashion to how it is done in previous versions of Windows. Below is a simple step-by-step tutorial that will show you exactly how you can access the automatic update options.

Firstly, press the Start button and choose "Control Panel" from the start menu :-

Launching the control panel

From the options that are now displayed, click on "System and Maintenance":-

Choosing system and maintenance from the control panel

From the options you now see, click on "turn automatic updating on or off" which is under the "Windows Update" heading :-

Choosing Windows Update options

Once you click this option, you will see the automatic update options for Vista, as shown on the previous page. Aside from some slight wording differences, the options are virtually identical to those offered in Windows XP, with the notable exception of the very last check box under "Recommended updates". Recommended updates are updates which improve the functionality of Windows but don't actually fix any important security or reliability problems. We advise that you do include recommended updates, after all, Microsoft is not recommending them for nothing!
