Learn how to configure and test the Windows XP Firewall with this easy video tutorial

The Windows XP Firewall provides a basic level of protection against hackers as soon as you start your computer up. Although many users opt for a third party firewall with a greater level of security, the XP Firewall has the advantage of being built-in to Windows XP. Therefore, it will start protecting your computer before you have even thought about a third party firewall.

This video tutorial demonstrates the most common configuration options for the XP Firewall and discusses when you might need to use them. Finally, if you need to turn off Windows Firewall for any reason, this video shows you how to do that too.

Not using Windows XP? Tutorials for the Windows Firewall are available for Windows 7 and Windows Vista users too. Click here for the Windows 7 version, or click here for the Windows Vista version.

Please allow for a short delay while the video loads, when loading is complete, click on the play button below the video to start playback.

Additional Notes

You can learn more about the XP Firewall and about adding exceptions by visiting the Microsoft.com pages for the Windows XP firewall. Microsoft have even prepared a tutorial for you, though there is no video this time!

ICMP - If you are curious as to what Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) is (and not IMCP as I mistakenly call it in the video!) you can check out this Wikipedia page. Be warned though, it's pretty technical stuff!
