Additional notes

The concept of sidebars and gadgets is not a new one. Sidebars have been popular in other operating systems (including Windows XP!) for some time. Vista takes the step of adding a standard sidebar, but on Windows XP the user must choose from the various third party sidebars and gadgets available.
