Vista Backup and Restore Center tutorial 3 – Backing up an entire hard drive
Tutorial 1 – Introduction
Tutorial 2 – Backing up files and folders
In this video, we perform a backup of the system drive using the Windows Vista Backup and Restore Center. Microsoft call this functionality “Windows Complete PC Backup”. This feature is only available in Windows Vista Business, Ultimate and Enterprise editions. With a complete PC backup, it is possible to restore your Windows Vista installation using only your Vista installation CD and your backup data. Great if your primary hard drive fails and you are required to reinstall your operating system.

Additional notes
Why can’t we backup to the network? The reason that Windows Complete PC Backup won’t let us backup to the network is probably because the network would not be accessible if we were performing a “bare metal” restore. That is, restoring from our backup in the event of a catastrophic failure where the operating system could no longer be booted. To perform a restoration in this situation, you must boot from the Windows Vista installation DVD.
