Use the Microsoft Chkdsk (check disk) utility to find and fix problems with your storage devices

If you have a problem with your hard drive, USB flash drive or memory card, running the Microsoft “Chkdsk” (check disk) utility can often solve the problem. Although Chkdsk cannot fix hardware problems, it can resolve problems caused by power failures, computer crashes or simply by forgetting to safely remove your USB drive.

Additional notes

Although Chkdsk cannot fix problems caused by faulty hardware, it can often detect them. If you find that you are having to run the program frequently on your drive, it may have developed a hardware fault.

For your reference the command we entered into the command prompt window in the video was “chkdsk c: /f”. Replace ‘c’ with the appropriate drive letter to scan another drive.
