Power up your e-mail with Gmail, a powerful free e-mail service from Google. In this video, we’ll be taking a look at Gmail, or Google Mail. This is a free service offered by Google and supported by advertising. If you don’t have an e-mail account yet, or you need a new one, Google Mail may be a good choice. With this service, you get an almost unlimited amount of free storage. You can access your e-mail from your PC, your phone or across the web and search your messages using Google’s search technology. Of course, keep in mind that you are also trusting Google to handle any e-mails you send through this service. If you have concerns about privacy and how Google use your data, you might want to have a look at the Gmail privacy policy FAQ. Remember, you should not consider e-mail to be confidential unless you use encryption when sending it.

Additional notes

As stated in the video, there is no cast-iron way to guarantee an e-mail is received by the intended recipient. However, if you enter the wrong e-mail address, you will usually receive a message letting you know the e-mail address doesn’t exist.

  1. Are you going to be updating the gmail tutorial? The new version is quite a challenge to my octagenarian students. I like them to view your tutorials, because yours cover all the important points in a short amount of time.

However your current gmail tutorial is really out of date, now that they have gone and hidden all the controls.

    • Hi Vicky, Yeah it’s on my to-do list along with quite a lot of other things! Since you requested I’ll make it my next update. I hadn’t realized it was that badly out of date since I read all my g-mail in Thunderbird.

    • Updated G-mail tutorials are going up now.

  2. For some reason I suddenly am unable to send any emails via the alpha method whereby I simply press an alphabet and all those with that letter appears on the list to whom I want to send the email. How can I recapture my email list and get back to the method I mention above. I feel rather stupid but I am stymied. Thanks. AL Jaeger
