MakeMKV Tutorial 1 – Installation
Thanks to a relatively recent change/clarification in UK law, it’s now perfectly legal to “format shift” your media. That means you can now convert your music CDs to MP3 and enjoy them on your phone or MP3 player or convert your DVDs to play on your tablet (as long as you do not sell or give away your original copy). Since we already covered how to convert your CDs into MP3 files in this tutorial, we’ll be taking a look at a powerful tool for converting your DVD collection into digital movie files that you can enjoy on your PC, tablet or smartphone. This tool is called MakeMKV.
In this tutorial we’ll walk you thorough installing MakeMKV. You can download MakeMKV from this page. Use the “Download MakeMKV for Windows” link on the left of the page. Once the download is complete, choose “Open” or “Run” in your browsers download manager to start the installation process. The following window will then appear.
Choose your preferred language (English is selected by default) then click on “OK”. The following window will then be displayed.
Click on “Next >”. The following window will then appear.
Scroll down to read the license agreement and if you agree to the terms, make sure “I accept the terms of the License Agreement” is selected, then click on “Next >”. The following window will then be displayed.
On this window you can choose the programs installation folder. The default folder is fine for most users, so simply click on “Next >”. You should then see the following window.
Here you can choose were you want MakeMKV to appear on your Start menu. Again, the default location is fine for most users, so simply click on “Install”. There will be a short pause while files are copied and configured. When the process is complete, the following window will appear.
MakeMKV is now installed, click on “Next >” and the window below will be displayed.
Click “Finish” to start the program. You can now move directly on to our next tutorial.
