Defragment and optimize drives in Windows 8 or 10

In this video tutorial, we demonstrate how to make Windows 8 faster by using the Optimize drives utility. This tool was known as the disk defragmenter tool in previous versions of Windows. The use of this tool varies between the different versions of Windows. If you are using Windows 7, please use this tutorial instead. For Windows Vista, please use this tutorial. Finally, If you are still using Windows XP, see this tutorial.

Windows 10 users – This process is exactly the same in your operating system. Simply search for “defragment and optimize” on the search bar rather than on the Start screen.

Please wait a moment while the video loads. To start the video presentation, please click on the picture below once the play icon appears.

Additional notes

You may be prompted by User Account Control for your administrator password when starting a Disk Defragment, this is normal. If your hard disk is heavily fragmented, defragmenting it could take several hours. We recommend you choose a time when you will not be using your PC to allow for defragmenting to complete without any problems. Defragmenting your computers hard drive is a completely safe procedure and will not cause you to lose any programs, data or settings and we recommended you schedule this procedure either monthly or weekly.
