TweetDeck is a great tool for those of you who love to follow lots of people on Twitter. While many of us check Twitter on our smartphones or on the web, those of us who regularly use our PCs can leverage the additional power of the platform by using apps like TweetDeck to get more out of Twitter. While you can use TweetDeck on the web, in these tutorials we will be using the native Windows version. To get started you need to download the latest version of the program. Visit the TweetDeck homepage here, then click on the Windows link under the big “Sign in on the web” button. Your browser will then download the latest version of the program. When the download is complete, choose “Open” or “Run” in your browsers download manager to start the installation process. TweetDeck requires the .NET framework version 2.0 in order to run. If you don’t have this component on your PC, you will see the window shown below. The installer will offer to send you to a webpage so you can download the required components, but on our machine the link simply didn’t work. If you get this error on your PC, follow this tutorial to download and install the .NET Framework. Once you have installed this component, come back to this tutorial and start it again. With the .NET Framework successfully installed, the following window will appear. Click on “Next >”. The following window will then be displayed. Scroll down to read the license agreement and if you agree, be sure to select “I Agree”, then click on “Next >”. The following window will then appear. Here you can choose where on your computer to store the TweetDeck program files. The default location is fine for most users, so simply click on “Next >”. The following window will then be displayed. Click on “Next >”. Enter your administrator password and/or click on “Yes” if Windows User Account Control prompts you to grant permission. Wait a moment while files are copied and configured. When the process is complete, the following window will appear. Installation is now complete. Click on “Close” and proceed directly to our next tutorial.
