If you want to completely transform the look and feel of your desktop, then WindowBlinds 8 is the utility you need. Note that version 8 of WindowBlinds no longer supports Windows XP or Windows Vista. If you are using either XP or Vista, check out our WindowBlinds 7 tutorials here.
You can try WindowBlinds 8 for free by downloading a copy from Stardock Software here. Use the big green “Get it now” button to start the download. When the download is complete, double click on the file or choose “Open” or “Run” in your browsers download manager to start the installation process. The following window will then be displayed:-
Scroll down to read the license agreement and if you agree to the terms and conditions, make sure “I agree to the terms of this license agreement” is selected, then click on “Next >”. The following window will then appear if you are running a Windows 8 machine.
Windows 8 users are now offered the option to install Start8. Start8 is a Start Menu replacement for Windows 8 that is fully compatible with WindowBlinds skins. If you want to install Start8 along with WindowBlinds, select the box labelled “Yes, also install Start8”, before clicking “Next >”. The following window will then be displayed.
Choose where on your computer you would like to install WindowBlinds. We strongly recommend you leave this as the default location, so simply click on “Next >”. You will need to wait a moment while files are copied and configured. The following window will then appear:-
Click on “Try WindowBlinds 8” to get started with your free trial, or “Unlock previous purchase” if you already have a serial number. The program will then start and take you to the configuration window, which we will look at in the next tutorial.
