Windows 10 Tutorial 13 – Cortana

In this lesson we’re going to take at look a Microsoft’s digital assistant “Cortana”. We will look at how to activate Cortana, what she can and can’t do and how to activate her with your voice or the keyboard.

Additional notes

Changing the default microphone – If you need to change your default microphone or recording device, follow these simple steps. Firstly, search for “Manage audio devices” on Cortana’s search bar, then click the icon as shown in the picture below.

On the window that now appears, select the “Recording” tab and then find the device you want to use. Right click on the device and choose “Set as Default Device”.

Cortana will now use your chosen microphone/recording device when listening to you.

  1. I have no mic icon on Cortana bar, no note either
    screen looks different on left side bar

    • I believe you just have to go into Cortana Settings, and look for a checkbox saying “Allow Cortana to do Web Search and Assist”…. When you click it on, then it changes.
